Its always been a wonder to me how magicians work their magic. I can sit for hours and watch magicians like David Copperfield, or that guy they call the “Mind Freak.” Watching them make things disappear or float in mid air mystifies me. The magician or escape artist that will always come to mind when I think of magic is Harry Houdini. I watch a lot of old shows on the History Channel, and when they do a show on Houdini, I sit watching in excitement at the things he can can do. Some day I would like to learn the secret of some of these tricks that these brilliant showmen do.

An attic is a place I like to think of not only for storing junk, but a place where if one looks hard enough, we could find so many things from our past hidden away. Recently I was in the attic and found some baseball cards from my youth stored in the back, hidden from view, in an old shoe box. When I opened the shoe box and saw these cards, I was shocked. They were taken to an appraiser and valued at over six thousand dollars. I like to think of the attic as an archive, somewhat like the National Archives in Washington D.C. A place where treasures are stored and kept untouched after a long period of time.

I believe to get better at something, a lot of practice is needed. I am currently involved in computer classes at a local college where the work is really challenging, and in the way I look at, and go about my tasks, is practice over and over again no matter how long it takes to get things just right. I spend hours a day at the computer, doing lessons, practicing typing, and doing all the little things that is needed to do well. Practice is a key word in each and everything that one does in life to be a success in whatever career one chooses to take.

When i used to drive tractor trailers, I was fortunate enough to travel extensively around the country. One of the most beautiful places I had the pleasure of seeing was Brooklyn NY. Traveling on the Brooklyn Queens Expressway, I had seen much of the skyline of New York City as well as the majestic bridges spanning the East River, such as the Brooklyn Bridge. I believe that this bridge is one of the most beautiful sites that one can see. The towers, the roadway along with the walkway spanning across, is one of the most beautiful bridges in this country.

When i was a child, My family and I lived in a housing development that had a lot of children. At Halloween–it was a lot safer back in those days–the management of the development would organize a costume parade. All the children would dress up in their costumes, gather in the middle of the large playground, and start to march around the entire project. People would stand on their porches applauding, laughing and cheering. When we got back to the playground the organizers would then judge the costumes and hand out prizes. After the parade was over, we would go to all the houses and Trick or Treat.

Lincoln Park was a place of fun and excitement for kids of all ages. I remember riding up route 6, anticipating a day of thrills and pleasure, when at a certain point on the road, into view would come the majestic Roller Coaster. My heart would start pounding with joy at the thought that soon I would be riding the Ferris Wheel, crashing on the Bumper Cars and eating cotton candy. Sounds of screams could be heard from the Roller Coaster as it plummeted down that huge first hill would fill the air along with laughter, one could tell people were having a good time. Everywhere you walked in Lincoln Park, people had smiles on their faces.

A picture that i just had the pleasure of viewing brought back memories of a department store from many years ago. On South Main St. in Fall River Mass. was a store known as McWhirr’s. As you walked into this store you were greeted by the the smell of new clothes and merchandise. It had all the elegance of old 18Th century decor, right down to the music that played. At Christmas time we could take the elevator, which had a man running it, to the toy department on the 4Th floor (I believe) to visit Santa Claus. Just seeing that picture brought back some very old memories of a beautiful store that I remember from so long ago.

I have many toys I play with such as a motorcycle, big screen TV and and a few computers. When I play, I like to play hard. I used to go skiing, ice skating and skydiving. Now that I can’t do those activities anymore, i have set my sights on my more safer toys. When i ride my motorcycle, i ride very cautiously and safe due to the fact that there are many people that really don’t pay attention. When I’m at home I play it a lot safer, I sit in my recliner and play games on my laptop, also play video games on my TV.

Some people might say that work is a dirty word to which I greatly disagree. When a person is out of work due to an injury, layoff, or whatever can be a very stressful thing. Depression can set in which I can honestly say isn’t a good thing at all. So when people say that they can’t stand their jobs, or wish they never had to work, I say put themselves in the place of a person that wants to work very badly and are not able to. I can’t wait till i graduate and get myself back in the working world for sanity sake, if nothing else.
